OPINION WG4: Inclusion & Dissemination

OPINION is a network of over a hundred and fifty researchers across and beyond Europe, who are interested in methods and tools for the study of opinionated text (www.opinion-network.eu). Within this network, the Inclusion & Dissemination working group will address the need for computational skillsets to analyze large amounts of opinionated text. We will set up a dedicated training mission to facilitate the inclusion of early career researchers and scholars from less well-resourced countries and institutions. Organizing summer schools, workshops and short-term scientific missions, we will advance the sustained exchange of knowledge, skills across ages, genders, languages and disciplines, including stakeholders in other scientific networks, politics, regulatory authorities, and industry. Democratizing access to skills, tools and resources, we aim to enable inter-disciplinary research on opinions in the digital age. OPINION is funded by COST (www.cost.eu/Actions/CA21129/) under the Horizon Europe research funding programme.

Virginia County Birding List

A list solely for the discussion of birding and bird distribution in Virginia counties and independent cities. NOT a list for general-interest birding discussions. Relevant topics include discussion of exact locations of jurisdictional boundaries between cities and counties and how they are determined (for the purposes of assigning bird sightings to the correct jurisdiction), as well as the increasing role of technology in birding (particularly GPS, advances in cartography, bird database software, and use of cell phones in the field) as it relates to our knowledge of bird distribution.

GenoCon Genomic Design Platform and Contest

http://GenoCon.org Design synthetic DNA sequences on the computer as solutions to complex problem assignments. Design a plant promoter DNA sequence using the PromoterCAD software to search for functional regulatory DNA. Make a promoter which controls specific expression in a plant tissue such as leaf, stem, or root, or only at a particular time of day. Accepted DNA designs will be synthesized, transformed into real plants, and tested for gene expression! Tools used on this platform allow you to create easy and accessible solutions to problems, even for non-specialists and students. Challenge yourself today!

Evolving Networks

Mailing list for the COSNet working group on evolving networks. The list will be used to discuss research into the dynamic behaviour of networks (i.e. mechanisms that explain how nodes and edges are added and removed from networks). The networks of interest here include biological (e.g. metabolic and gene networks), ecological (e.g. food webs), and man-made (e.g. world-wide web, other communications networks).

Proteomics

This group deals with discussions relevant to proteomics, including use of (2D) electrophoretic and chromatographic separations, and analysis by mass spectrometry (chiefly MALDI and ESI), as well as to all methods for identification of proteins from databases. Discussions of commercial products, hardware and software, used in the course of proteomics are encouraged and a primary reason why this list was started. If you post what appears to be an advertisement (some call it spam), then be prepared to defend any (outrageous) claims. The list owner is giving a free hand to postings in this start-up. If there is a consensus that there is abuse, conditions may change, including moderation.
