Every system has one, it would be nice to find a use for it! (Oh yeah, sighted people are totally infatuated with the thing, but I mean for blind people :-).) I have a couple of ideas. It could be used to very the level or balance in real time. Could it work with an add-on of some kind to allow auditory inspection of the wave display? Maybe to generate a tone that would represent the value displayed at the position of the mouse. The mouse would have either to be restricted to the display area, or act as if it were with this add-on. Could it be used to allow you to drag the cursor position with audio feedback? Imagine a reel-to-reel deck, or a turntable. Imagine you could move the tape by hand and hear it move across the head. As far as that goes, would it be possible to have a mode where you would hear audio you moved over as you pressed the arrow keys? I have used a program called MP3 Direct Cut. I like its interface, at least as far as playback and the cursor, with the appropriate JAWS scripting. The main thing I like about it is that when you press SPACE to stop it, the cursor stays where it is when it stops. I think there are also advantages to the way Audacity does it-- when you stop, the cursor is where it was when you started playing. The shift+a key provides the suggested behavior, but I like the spacebar because it's easy to hit. I might could reassign SPACE to this command but I haven't thought through the ramifications of this. Is an Audacity plugin able to work with the mouse? Any ideas? Does anyone know of this being done anywhere? Gary
