Are you sure you've downloaded the right files?
The Windows binaries are not on the official website.
You should grab them here:
https://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/
Don't be intimidated, there are a lot of options but I hadn't to
adjust anything and could proceed to the "download build" button.
Nevertheless, you should check if all is right.
- Windows
- 64 or 32 bit
- static linking
After downloading the zip file, you can extract it to a place of your choosing.
There will be a bin folder with the three executables of which you'll
probably need only the ffmpeg.exe.
You should add this folder to the path variable of the user
environment. This allows you to access the executable within any
powershell or cmd window.
The alternative is to move the ffmpeg folder to the windows folder.
If you want to manually add the location:
Windows key + I opens the settings.
search for "environ.."
Tab around to get to the environment variables.
Under the user (or system) variables, search for "PATH and press edit.
You'll get a list of the currently included paths.
Press on the browse button and search for the ffmpeg/bin folder.
(I've added it e.g. directly within the download folder)
Press OK until you're back to settings and close that one too.
Now, it's time for testing.
Go to some folder where music or videos are stored.
Make sure, nothing is selected (when in doubt, check with control+space")
Press shift+context menu and select "open power shell window here" or
command prompt (CMD) if that is your default.
You should now be able to enterr
ffplay and some song title.
Note that it is enough to enter the beginning of the file name,
followed by tab until the right one is announced.
Press enter and playback should start.
Press escape to stop it (there are other keystrokes, e.g. u for mute
or arrow keys to seek).
Tell me when you've arrived at this point.

How about Reaper?
It's 60 dollars but there is no limit to the demo version and no expiring
date.
You could also use FFMpeg which allows free mixing of video and audio
and pictures.
The advantage or disadvantage is that it works on the command line
with a lot of options.
I always wanted to make a Wrapper for it.
