Hi Gerado
Firstly, welcome to the List. I will say with a very high level of
confidence that you can achieve what you want with Audacity. It works very
differently to Goldwave though, so there will be some learning involved.
You didn’t say which screen reader you are using. Fundamentally, that is not
important on the Windows platform. Scripts are available for JAWS that
provide some enhancements. Others can comment on them, as I use NVDA.
Audacity is a multi-track recorder. Once you get familiar with it, that will
make much of what you are doing very easy. For example, you can have your
podcast on one track and the intro music on another. You can then move your
podcast track forward so that it starts as the music fades out.
One major difference between Audacity and Goldwave is how you edit. Whereas
Goldwave uses markers, Audacity relies on highlighting a section of audio
that you want to manipulate – adjust volume, add an effect, delete etc. I
did a brief audio intro to Audacity editing a while ago, which you may find
helpful. You can download it from this page. David, who is on this list,
has written a guide primarily for JAWS users. Because I am slack I do not
have the link, but he will no doubt share it. I would also strongly
encourage you to read the manual that comes with Audacity. That is where I
learned most of what I know about it.
Some Audacity commands to get you started:
R to record
Shift r to record on a subsequent track
P for pause
Spacebar to start/stop playback
X to stop playback at current position (very important).

I’d like for example to be able to first record the podcast itself which I
know how to do, via the R command; by the way how do you pause in Audacity?
Afterwards when the recording is over, I’d like to have the intro start, and
about 15-18 seconds into the Intro track, have my recording play; the effect
I hope for is just as the ending notes of the intro play, myrecording Will
come in.
Afterwwards maybe about four or five minutes into the recording, mark a point
A and Point B, if posible delete the stuff inside that selection, and replace
it with one of the promos forthe podcast. Do this throughout the podcast in
maybeMinute 4, Minute8, Minute 14;each with aCiberaprendiendo promo.
Lastly, just as the last of my recording plays, the closing music of the
podcast comes in.
Is all this possible in Audacity? With GoldWAve, I was and am able to do all
these steps almost automatically via the Control+m command, marking with left
and right bracket etc. With Audacity how would this procedure be
accomplished, if it can?

Very good morning! Gerardo (Gera) from Mexicowith you?ll.
I?ve used Goldwave almost ten years, but since getting myself
this new Laptop, money istight, so Goldwave is out of the question
fornow. I?ve Heard lots of great things about Audacity! I sure
wish I could with time, get to thepointwhere I was with
Goldwave!you see, I podcast to blindness blogs in Spanish, about
technology and Psychology, thus I reallyneed a good sound and
recording editor! Like inits time, I learned Goldwave thanks to
those series ofseveralpodcasts where they go into Depth aboutthe
software and give real-life examples of how to do stuff from
selecting, marking, mixing and other tasks, are
theresimilar-styledpodcasts available for Audacity?
Thanks for hints/tips you guys might offer for someone who is
transferring from GoldWAve to Audacity especially! And looking
forward to learn all I can about this software.
