[audacity4blind] Memory Roadblock

I have recorded literally hundreds of multitrack songs with Audacity, some of them with many separate tracks.  I have never encountered a memory problem doing so.  I am currently working on a different type of project involving 124 short voice clips, probably averaging about 15 seconds per clip.  I imported all of them into a new Audacity project, intending to listen to each clip for final editing.  By the time I got to about the twentieth clip, I received an error message indicating first some sort of audio interface problem, and then referring to a memory issue.  I infer that this means that Audacity cannot handle this large number of tracks in one project.  My next step is to start over, but import only half of the tracks, work on them, and then do the second half.  What is the best way to handle a large project such as this in order to avoid this memory roadblock?

On another issue, this large number of tracks brought into disturbing focus how difficult it is to change the order of tracks, since the "move track" menu only allows for moving one slot at a time or jumping to the top or bottom.  Thus, to move a track from say position 74 to position 37, you must invoke this menu item many times, instead of jumping say ten or twenty slots at a time.
