Currently, the audio position is only reported in the NVDA add-on on
demand: NVDA+a.
My keyboard layout uses all insert keys and also the caps lock key as
NVDA modifiers and thus it is pretty easy to get the info while
scrolling with help of the left hand.
Do you want an automatic announcement?

without a script the following works:
Press control-f6 and tab until you reach Audio Position. Asking NVDA to
read the current line (NVDA-l in laptop layout) will read the current
value, whether playing or paused. You can use arrow keys to interrogate
more closely.
