Sorry for the late response. A few years back I came upon a bunch of tapes I
wanted to digitize. Thanks to the wonderful folks on this list and an
inexpensive interface called, U Phono USO202 I got it done. The device is
available from a company called Sweetwater and they are most helpful. The
small interface has a switch that turns on a preamp for recording records
directly from a turntable but its not necessary for tapes. With a couple of
the tutorials from list members they turned out great. Good luck.

I just remembered something this morning. If you have been a subscriber to an
email magazine called the blind perspective, there was an article about two
years ago written by Cheryl Spencer of the Spencer’ Spotlight articles that
reviewed a cassette to MP3 converter that was accessible and you can purchase
this device from Amazon and possibly Walmart as well. The blind perspective is
changing its website to be THEBLINDPERSPECTIVE.nET.

computer will depend to some extent on the specifics of your computer. I am
not familiar with the devices others have suggested, but assume they become
another sound card to which you can connect Audacity. If your computer has
a line in (very rare on notebooks these days) you could use it. My concern
would be that many internal sound cards are cheap and nasty and can
introduce a lot of noise. The benefit of any half decent USB interface is

You mentioned that you are a musician. What instruments? If recording
acoustic instruments, you can start down the slippery slope of investigating
microphones. For electronic instruments a mixer will likely become a
necessity.
But before all that, start getting familiar with the way Audacity works.
When something doesn't work as expected or when you cannot find a way of
achieving something, there is lots of expertise on this list. And as you
may have noticed from recent discussions, there is sometimes more than one
way to get the job done.
