Hi Jen

I may be covering some things you already know, in which case apologies for that.

Having recorded some audio, save it from the file menu. When you save an Audacity project both a file and a folder are created. Let's say you save a project with the name jen. A file called jen.aup and a folder called jen_data will be created. The .aup extension stands for Audacity project. As a bytheway, if you copy your jen.aup file to another folder, be sure to copy the folder as well or there will be doom and gloom when you try to open the project. The same applies if you rename the file; you must also rename the folder to match.

Now to the crux of your question. There are two options. The first is to open the file from Audacity. Having opened Audacity, simply open the file called jen.aup. Control-o is the fastest way of getting to the open file dialog or you can go through the file menu. If your file is not in the folder where Audacity has focus you will have to go hunting for it and that can be a bit tedious.

The second option is to find the file with File Explorer and press Enter. The potential catch there is that the .aup extension may not be associated with Audacity and you will be asked to choose which program to use to open the file. In that case you will need to associated it with Audacity. The exact steps for doing that vary between Windows versions, so I won't go any further down that path at this stage.

You didn't ask about playing audio you have recorded with other software, but in case you are (or will) contemplating that, you need to export the project from the Audacity file menu.

audio I recorded? Thanks.
