[audacity4blind] audacity v1.2.6 or 1.3.x?

Hello,
I'm going to learn audacity preparing to teach a friend of mine how to
use it. I'm wondering do most people use 1.2.6 or 1.3.x and the
advantages/disadvantages of each? I'm most familiar with gold wave,
will audacity be hard to pick up? And are there any audio tutorials or
podcasts for the 1.3.x audacity?
