Hi Josh,
this is an answer to your first question about separating out the channels of a
stereo track.
To create two mono tracks from a stereo track, open the track's context menu by
pressing the application key, and choose Split stereo to mono. You will now
have two tracks. They may both have the name, but since there's only two of
them it won't be two confusing.
There are a number of ways of exporting each of the two tracks to an mp3 file.
Probably the easiest is to make use of the fact that if you mute a track it
does not contribute to the audio in the exported file. So if you mute the
second track and export the audio, the file will only contain the audio of the
first track. You mute or unmute the focussed track by pressing shift+u.
To export the audio, choose export audio on the file menu. In the export audio
dialog, there's a save as type combo box where you can choose mp3. There's also
an options button which opens a dialog to set the options for the chosen
format, in this case mp3.

David.

hi
I got a newer USB tape player on amazon. it has a 5 out of 5 rating and
great customer reviews and great stereo souns, automatic side switching
for the tapes. my questions are these. I am new to autdacity first of
all and I use NVDA screen reader. so 1. some tapes were recorded with a
4-track tape recorder, how do I separate each stereo channel and make it
its own mp3? some tapes like the old 2xl robot tape have two different
things going on, like if you listen to it in your left ear you may hear
a story while in your right ear you'll hear a voice asking questions and
telling you to hit buttons on the robot toy. I want to separate each
left and right channel into its own mp3. 2. some tapes are sped up. How
do I slow them back down to normal speed? 3. and if it won't ruin
quality and take too much time can I apply filters or get some tape hiss
removal filters for audacity?
thanks
