Much thanks, yes I was using the overdub turned on, but as it happened my problem was that I couldn't hear the track that I recorded, which I later found out to be a issue with my computers system preferences. Once I adjusted the maximum gain on the microphone from 35% up to about 85% things sounded much clearer.
