Hi,
If you don't want to move the cursor, you could save the cursor position, move
the cursor to find the length,
and then restore the cursor position.
You can save and restore the cursor position using the region save and region
restore commands on the edit menu. These also save and restore the cursor
position if a time range is not selected.
Note that for some unknown reason, the region save command is only available if
at least one of the tracks is selected.

Do you want to know the length of one of the tracks in a project?
If so, then first move the cursor to the end of that track. You can do this by
having that track selected, and all others not selected, and then pressing the
letter k to move to the end of the selected tracks.
Then to read the position of the cursor, either:
1. press [ to open the start selection dialog. If you're using Jaws, you'll
have to tab round to the position control again for it to be read properly.
2. Alternatively, press ctrl+f6 to move to the selection bar, and then tab to
selection start. To return to the tracks, press ctrl+f6 twice.
