Tell us more about how you are connecting the guitar to the computer 
if it doesn't help, and what operating system. 

USB interfaces are often a cleaner way to record mic and guitar
and will usually offer phantom power for mics plus a guitar 
input. You then connect the interface to the USB port of the 
computer.
