That's a good point. When I do a library book, there's often a piece of tape on the binding to either side of the book, top or bottom. That helps me keep orientation.

Gwen, on the optic book, in 2-page mode, line your page up w/the top right of the scanner. You'll feel the raised mark there. The book edge scanner is no help in 2-page mode, so don't forget to press down, though truth be told, it does require less pressure than the majority of scanners. Still, u will need to do this in order to ensure that the book is flat against the scanner glass. It is also helpful to mark either the front or back cover of the book in order to maintain orientation. Which 1 u mark is up to u, but devise a system & stick w/it. Then I came across one of those books with practically no margin on the side of the pages next to the spine and I made a complete mess of it. The only way I could make it come out right was to scan one page at a time and check each page before I went on to the next one. Actually, I had to rescan each page several timesandcheck it before I went on to the next one. After finishing that horrendousordeal I continued that method on to the next book. I was still having torescan pages rather frequently, though, because words were often cut off at the ends or beginnings of lines. Then I figured out that it does work betterin two page mode and those cut off words do not happen if I am careful topress down firmly on the spine while scanning in that two page mode, that isatleast, if there are actually margins in the middle. I have still continuedto check each two pages before moving on to the next two though. An advantage is that if I have the page right there with the book open to it and thereare several errors on the page it is often less trouble to rescan it on the spot rather than correct the errors manually. It is also similar to reading the way I did before losing my eyesight too. That is, I read two pages andthen turn the page and read the next two. "Can a nation be free if it oppresses other nations? However, there are some books that scan better in "single-page" mode.I don't have a formula for determining this, it's just one of the things Ichange if necessary.I prefer two-page scanning because it's less labor intensive. If I have to scan in single-page mode, I have to insert page breaks manually, and it cansometimes be interesting trying to figure out where the page break should be.Anyway there's my penny for your thoughts.
