Hi. I've heard it mentioned several times that Bookshare isn't just for the
blind. I had thought that it was for the print-handicapped, which would
equal someone who couldn't hold a book, or someone who would have to read by
listening or using braille. If this is indeed the case, why is there a
problem about m-dashes, since they are represented as a hyphen in braille or
a slight pause as a hyphen would be in print. I, as a proofreader,
understand maintaining integrity, but using braille or Daisy, the m-dash
represents aproblem. I never consciously ran into it until I got Word a few
months ago.
Sometimes I have the distinct impression that this validation of books isn't
for the speech-users among us. I'd have to read the book with punctuation
turned on.
So, help me put my brain back into perspective.
