Hi Roger!

Do you use the Windows search tool?

To find a file anywhere on your computer:

1. Press Control-Esc to open the start menu.

2. Type f to open the search tool that lets you search for files or folders.

3. Press Enter to open the dialog box that has several options, which are buttons for types of files you might want to search for. The choice of buttons are:

Pictures, music and video

Documents (Word Processing, Spreadsheet, etc.)

All Files and Folders.

4. Press tab to get to the one I always use no matter what I'm looking for, that last button, "All Files and Folders".

5. Press Enter on that last button I mentioned in the previous step to open the "All Files and Folders" edit box where you type what you want to find.

6. There are several more options to tab past. I ignore them and keep tapping until I get to the search button.

7. Hit Enter on the search button. Wait a few seconds for the computer to search for the file or folder.

8. After a few seconds, there will be a button called "Yes, done searching. Hit enter on that button.

9. Hit Tab once and then down arrow to find all instances of the file with it's location so that you can know where to find the file. You can arrow up through the list also if you want to re-read the list backwards as you go up.

This tool was worth it's weight in gold, because yesterday, I downloaded a file and forgot to check where it was downloading. I had no idea, but the search tool saved the day. In a few seconds I had the file and put it where I wanted it.

Remember the discussion I just had with Kim about being technically ignorant and the long and hard effort to learn how to use a computer? Well, that is something I have not yet taught myself. I just looked in "my computer" and clicked Open Book and found a large number of files that, as far as I know, did not have anythig to do with text files. Can You give me detailed instructions on how to look in my Open Book directory on my hard drive and how to recover the file I want if I find it. Hi Roger!

Before you give up. Look in your OpenBook directory on your hard drive. The
same thing has happened to me, and I was able to find the document that way.
Many times I have not been able to do so however.

Now when I scan I copy each page into an rtf Word document. Time consuming
to be sure, but more reliable.

Good luck.

Blessings.

I have been scanning February 1965, The Final Speeches by Malcolm X. It is a
293 page book and I have been scanning it two pages at a time and checking
each and every page before going on to the next one. That is very careful
and slow work and I have gotten almost halfway through it. I didn't get a
chance to work on it yesterday or today until just now. I just opened my
Open Book to do some work on it and it is not there. There is not a sign of
it. I surely don't remember deleting it or anything else in my Open Book,
but I even checked my recycle bin. It was empty, but then I think I did
empty it yesterday. I am not so much asking for help because I don't know
that any of you can offer advice on this problem, so I suppose I am just
venting. This is a terrible feeling. Where is the book I have done so much
work on?
