[bksvol-discuss] Another value of bookshare

I?m in the process of scanning a book that is
literally falling apart. Some of the pages fell out
when I checked it out of the library, and more are
coming loose as I scan and read, though some, I see,
were out and were scotch-taped together by someone
before me.

This emphasizes one of the points made in the recent
discussion of the advantages of bookshare ?
preservation of books which might otherwise be lost
because (1) they?re no longer in print and might not
ever be re-issued and (2) as they disintegrate,
they?ll be lost from libraries. PG only preserves
books which are in public domain, but many books of 30
years ago and more are fragile. This one was published
in 1984.
