Hello all, I'm sure all of you remember the lovely debate and the apparent discovery that print page numbers were being omited from braille copies of Bookshare books. I promised to investigate. Thanks to all of you who sent me pages from books that you either submitted or recently validated. And, even bigger thanks to Kellie Hartman, who is conducting her own independent investigation so that we can verify my findings. and, the drum role please! The results say, no panic necessary. All books that contained properly formatted page numbers when validated do have necessary print page numbers associated with them when converted to braille. Bookshare's tools are not misbehaving as previously assumed. I had the opportunity to check ten books-some provided by you, some randomly picked from the recently approved books list. I'm happy to report that none of these books had a problem. As Kellie and I suspected, the culprid appears to be Kurzweil 1000, which sucks these page numbers. So those of you who are using Kurzweil 1000 to back translate Bookshare braille books, must keep in mind that Kurzweil 1000 does not properly back translate the series of dot 3, 6 characters followed by # sign and the page number. In fact, it seems to gobble up that portion of the page. Those of you using note takers to read the braille files should find no problems. I hope this clears up a lot of the confusion from last week. I'm happy to answer any questions you might have on this. Regards, Pratik
