Hi Lori and everyone!

If there is a French-speaking synthesizer on the system and it is used while reading something in French, it should work well. Any English-speaking synth would be useless, because it would be using English pronunciation rules.

Hi, Ellen,
I recently made a fairly sustained effort to find accessible books in French. I searched through the Library of Congress NLS website and found a couple.
A magazine in French can be downloaded from BARD.
Recordings for the Blind and Dyslexic has the largest collection of books in French. I'm going to look at the Bookshare books myself, but wonder how well the language works with synthesized speech.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Books in French?

Hi group,

This question might be more for Carrie or Scott, but I'll throw it out and see what I get. The head of the Disabled Student Services office at my alma mater just sent me a message asking me about the availability of accessible format books in French. I really had no idea, but mentioned Bookshare, as well as Project Gutenberg. At least the latter would most likely have the classics. So, I guess my question is, do we have books in French in our collection? If so, how many?

Thanks,

Ellen
