1. Announcing newspapers and magazines
Bookshare.org isn't just for books anymore!
In partnership with the National Federation of the Blind NFB-NEWSLINE(r)
system, we are pleased to announce that newspapers and magazines are=20
available for download by Bookshare.org members.
During our sneak peak, subscribers have access to key publications=20
including The New Times, USA Today, The Economist and The New Yorker.=20
More newspapers and a small limited number of magazines will become=20
available. Institutional Access users can download periodicals at no=20
additional cost for a limited time.
Periodicals are in the same formats as our books (DAISY and BRF).=20
Periodicals are available to subscribing residents of Sponsored=20
States.
Visit our website and go to the "Periodicals" link in the navigation=20
area from any main page. Or, go directly to this link:=20
http://www.bookshare.org/periodicals
2. A new way to support Bookshare.org
Many members, friends and visitors have asked us, "How do I donate=20
money to Bookshare.org?" We've been so focused on their opportunities=20
to share books directly through scanning and volunteering that until=20
now we didn't have an easy way to accept monetary donations.
Donors now have an easy way to contribute, at different levels of=20
giving. This new donation capability can be found at this link:=20
http://www.bookshare.org/web/DonateNow.html
The "Partners" page at
www.bookshare.org
(select the "Partners" link=20
on the right-hand navigation toolbar) also includes a link to this=20
donation page.

**Popular Non-Fiction**
My Life by Bill Clinton
The book event of the year has been the release of this candid=20
autobiography of one of the late 20th Century's most talked-about=20
figures, former President Bill Clinton. This weighty tome is typically=20
Clintonian in its obsessive attention to detail, and along the way=20
reveals much about the personal strengths and weaknesses that shaped=20
Clinton's life, career and presidency. As Amazon.com relates,
"the veracity of emotion and Kitchen Confidential-type revelations=20
about 'What it's like to be President' make My Life impossible to put=20
down."

A Speaker's Guidebook by Hannah Rubenstein, Rob Stewart, Dan O'Hair=20
http://www.bookshare.org/web/SingleTitle.html?submittitleid=3D25921
This is the second edition of the valuable reference book for novice=20
public speakers from Bedford/St. Martin's, published originally in=20
2001 and now again in 2004. This edition covers all the basics taught=20
in a speech course, such as managing speech anxiety, analyzing the=20
audience, and organizing ideas, while also introducing readers to=20
valuable supporting technologies, the essentials of speaking in=20
academic and occupational settings, and ethical and cultural=20
perspectives on public speaking.
**Popular Fiction**
Song of Susannah (The Dark Tower, Book 6) by Stephen King
From the book jacket: "The next-to-last novel in Stephen King's seven-=20
volume magnum opus, Song of Susannah is at once a book of revelation,=20
a fascinating key to the unfolding mystery of the Dark Tower, and a=20
fast- paced story of double-barreled suspense." According to=20
Publisher's Weekly, "Avid readers of the series will either be=20
completely enthralled or extremely irritated when, in a gutsy move,=20
the author weaves his own character into this unpredictable saga, but=20
either way there's no denying the ingenuity with which King paints a=20
candid picture of himself. The sixth installment of this magnum opus=20
stops short with the biggest cliffhanger of King's career, but readers=20
at the edge of their seats need only wait a few short months (Dark=20
Tower VII: The Dark Tower) to find out how -- and if -- King's=20
fictional universe will come to an end."

The Priestly Sins by Andrew Greeley
Prolific author and Catholic Priest Andrew Greeley addresses his=20
Church's recent scandals in novel form in The Priestly Sins. Drawing=20
on 50 years in the Church and experience as the author of 50=20
bestselling novels, Greeley uses this controversial backdrop to create=20
a classic page-turner. Greeley balances clear condemnation of those=20
who covered up their peers' crimes with the heroic characterization of=20
protagonist Herman Hugo Hoffman, an idealist who battles against those=20
who would keep him from revealing the truth about an abusive priest.

**For Kids**
The Supernaturalist by Eoin Colfer=20
http://www.bookshare.org/web/SingleTitle.html?submittitleid=3D25856
A new book for fans of science fiction, young and old alike, from the=20
author who brought us the beloved Artemis Fowl books. The=20
Supernaturalist follows "parentally challenged" 14-year-old Cosmo Hill=20
as he escapes from his orphanage and hooks up with a gang of=20
"Supernaturalists"-- kids who all have a special psychic ability which=20
Cosmo soon discovers he shares. Colfer conjures his typically=20
sympathetic characters and a fantastic and believable world where the=20
supernatural feels natural.

ABOUT BOOKSHARE.ORG
Books without Barriers
Bookshare.org is an online community that enables
people in the United States with visual or other print disabilities to=20
legally share scanned books.
Where do the digital books come from?
The Bookshare.org collection is built and shaped primarily by its=20
community of members and supporters. By scanning a book to submit to=20
the collection, a Bookshare.org member can provide all other members=20
access to that book.
Who can access the books?
Copyrighted digital books are available only to U.S. residents who=20
have a disability that affects print reading and have a current=20
subscription. Organizations such as schools can sponsor subscriptions=20
for their students.
A limited number of books are available to non-U.S.
residents because of publisher permission.
Visit this link on our website to find out more:=20
http://www.bookshare.org/web/AboutInternationalMembership.html
Why is Bookshare.org legal?
In general, it would be illegal to share or distribute copyrighted=20
books. However, Bookshare.org takes advantage of a special exemption=20
in U.S. copyright law that permits the reproduction of publications=20
into specialized formats for the disabled. This project is possible=20
under the law in the United States, as long as the copyrighted digital
books are only available to people in the U.S. with bona fide
disabilities and the nonprofits and schools that serve them.

.
Who is providing Bookshare.org?
Bookshare.org is a project of the Benetech Initiative, a nonprofit=20
organization. The Benetech team originally developed the Arkenstone=20
reading systems, and is now using the power of technology to introduce=20
new projects such as Bookshare.org -
