Hi Jill.

Thanks for the offer, and if it saves me some money I might as well take you up on it smile. Even though the manual I can read with the Braille display is probably the same thing you have in hard copy, it'll still be nice to have an actual copy in Braille just in case I might want to look up something and not have to turn on the Braille Note to do it. I'll be writing you off list with my address so you'll be able to send it when you have the time.

You will at least have a slot for a flashcard on the side. There will be a manual that you can read with your 18 cell braille display, but as a matter of fact, I have a hard copy braille manual that I no longer need and will be happy to send it to you if you like.

Hi all.

I'm in the
process of getting myself a Braille Note with an 18-cell Braille display on it from someone on one of my e-mail lists, and I'm trying to find out if I need to get myself one of those software maintenance agreements like you get with screen readers like JFW. I'm also trying to figure out how to order a Braille manual, but I can't find a link to order the manual online from Humanware, which sells the same thing I'm getting for about $4,400, or somewhere around there. I'm only having to pay about $440 for mine, with shipping, so it's not too bad. I'm not sure what the model of the one I'm getting is, since there's a Braille Note BT and also one with PK. There's one with a QT after the Braille Note's name too but I'm assuming that has an actual typing keyboard like a computer, or like the old Type n Speaks from Blazie Engineering. I'm assuming these Braille Notes with either the eighteen or thirty-two cell Braille displays function similarly to the old Braille Lites that Blazie sold as well, although I wasn't ever lucky enough to use one. I had to use one of the old Braille n Speaks with no Braille display! Come to think of it I'm not sure how old this unit is, but the person I'm getting it from says it's hardly been used. I may have to ask her though and see if it's one of the newer ones with a slot for a flash card or not. I was looking on Humanware's Web site, which is how I even knew they had newer and older units. Needless to say, this is sort of confusing for me to figure out, and I'm trying to decide whether I should wait until I get it in the mail and take a look at it before I try and get a manual or if I should order one so hopefully I'll have it when the unit gets here. I think it's either being shipped today or tomorrow, depending on when the lady can get herself a ride to send it out. I don't know if I need to call Humanware to order a manual, since you can't apparently order one separately, unless I'm just looking in the wrong place. I did a search in Google for Braille Note and went to the page that came up, where it listed the 18 and 32-cell models and gave prices for them. There were also links for the QT and PK versions, as well as a multilingual one, and then under those they had the accessories like the carrying case and manual, along with prices, but you couldn't click on a link and order one. I didn't mean for this message to be so long, so I hope you've actually read this far into it! I know some of you on these lists use Braille Notes, but I'm not sure if this is an on topic message, since I don't know what types of files a Braille Note can read and whether or not you can validate books with them. If you can, that would be neat for me, because I wouldn't have to sit at the computer ever time I wanted to validate something. Again sorry for the long message everyone! I just figured someone on here might know the answers to these, and once I get it I'm planning on joining the Braille Note list too.
