Hi, Roger. Once you get your voices set to the way you like them, you
press ok. Then you need to save your settings. I think the settings
menu is alt g in Openbook 6. Please don't hold me to this though since
I haven't seen the program in awhile. In the settings menu, you'll see
an option to save your settings. Save them with the name "default"
without the quotes. This will make your settings load every time you
start the program. This will save all of your settings, not just your
voices. So once you choose some scanning settings you really like, you
will need to save your settings again, naming them default. This is
something I used to forget to do and then would get so annoyed with
myself. I kind of wish Openbook would prompt you to save settings
before exiting. It doesn't though.

While you're adjusting settings, you may wish to turn off the
despeckle option and the option to scan white text on black background
in the scanning settings area. These settings are really meant for
scanning newspapers and books with a small decoration around the
print. It actually can degrade performance when scanning most
paperback books. Once you change these settings and save them, you
won't have to worry about it unless you choose to scan a hardcover
book with ornate decoration or fancy paper.
