Shelley,

There's not much information to work with here.

It looks as if it could be either a missing component or support file, or
that the volunteer needs to be taught how to use Save As properly.

Let's take the last one first since it's the easiest to dismiss. Are you
sure that the volunteer isn't simply renaming the file to end in RTF instead
of converting the file to RTF?

If the volunteer isn't a novice computer user and knows what they're doing,
then Word's Help says it's possible that the volunteer is missing a file
format converter or a support file or that Word can't find them because the
drive containing Word has been moved (i.e. from C to D). If this is the
case, thenWord says that the installation program for Word may need to be
rerun. The help topics I read were Troubleshoot File Conversions and Set
Options For Converting Documents if you or the volunteer would like to read
them. Sounds as if it might be easier to just reinstall the entire thing
instead of trying to figure out what might be missing then just reinstall
the missing component or file.

Maybe someone else will have a better idea of what to do. If not, and if
neither one of these things apply, then let us know and include the version
of Word, which operating system the volunteer is using, and whether or not
RTF is showing up in the list for file formats under the Save As option.

Good luck.

Gerald

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Converting .html in MS Word

Hey you all passing on a question for a volunteer not on the list.

She is having a challenge, and I can't figure out why, unless I have
something checked in MS. Word that she doesn't.

She can't save .html files, as .rtf files in MS. Word, or Word pad, without
getting all the html tags too.

I don't know what is going on there.

But wanted to pass it along in case someone else encountered this problem,
and new how to fix it.

Thanks.
