Thank you for your help with this quandry.

Won't Bookshare reject the book if there is no copyright holder?

This copyright stuff is the most confusing part of the submission and validation process for me.

You're right, Lori--the book isn't listed in the
government copyright office.

There are two editions. I checked the copyright page
that one can "see inside the book" on amazon.com and
there is not copyright except for the introduction. I
also checked the Library of COngress catalog, and
there doesn't seem to be a copyright indication. The
first listing said the book was created by Little,
Brown in 1952 and the second by the University of
Illinois Press in 1998--but no copyright holder was
specifically given.

About all you can do when you're ready to submit it is
to include a copy of the copyright page in the
comments section with a note that you checked the
govenment copyright office and amazon and the LC
catalog and no copyright holder is specified.

Hello, Everyone,

I have just scanned a book which I was hoping to
read and then to submit to Bookshare.

However, in reviewing the first pages of the scan, I
can't find any copyright information, but I am sure
the book is copyrighted because the novel was
reissued by Prairie State Books. Can anyone
describe the copyright symbol for me as I might be
able to find it with my optacon even though the
scanner does not pick it up.

Also, I then attempted to find the copyright
information on
www.copyright.gov
but my search skills were ineffective.

I entered on the link
search records
Then I entered on the link
books, music etc.
At first I checked the box for author and entered
the author's name in the edit field, last name
first. I got a huge number of search results and
gave up before finding the author after scrolling
through the results for more than 30 mintes.

Then I went back to the
books music etc
and checked the title
I typed in the title without the first word which
was an article "the"
Again I got a huge number of results to scroll
through a few at a time.

What am I doing wrong? Is there a simpler way to
search this site with a screen reader? I am very
good at searching google and other sites, but this
one has me baffled.

By the way, I am searching for "Madeline Babcock
Smith" and/or "The Lemon Jelly Cake".

Please excuse the length of this email, but I really
want to learn to search this site.

Thanks.

Lori Castner
