Hi All, My brother got a gift certificate from Barnes and Noble over the holidays, went yesterday to pick out a book, and came back with this. It looked interesting, and I've checked and seen that it's not in the collection, not on the Being Scanned list, not on the Outsourcer list, not on the Checkout list, and not on any of the three subpages of the Books in Process list, so I decided to scan it. If this could be added to the Being Scanned list, that would be great. The book is, as the subject says, "The Strongest Tribe: War, Politics, and the End Game in Iraq", by Bing West. I'm about 300 pages in to the scan, and plan on finishing it today (it has around 450 pages), after which I'll do all the proofreading listed in chapters 3 and 4 of the Scanning and Proofreading Manual so as to make the proofreader's job as easy as possible, and then I'll submit. If all goes as planned, I'll submit in a few days, or by the end of the week. I'm pasting the synopsis below--if anyone wants to proof, let me know, and I'll put a hold for you on it. I'm out of town next week and won't have Internet access, but after that, I'd be more than happy to answer any proofing questions on it, and I'll have the print copy available, since we own the book. If someone lets me know off-list that they want to proof, I'll let the list know. If no one specifically requests to proof, I'll just post when it's up there, with more specific comments about the proofing I've done (which will also be in the Comments section of the submission, of course), should anyone wish to grab it--should be a very easy proofread once I've submitted it. Here's the synopsis: "From a universally respected combat journalist, a gripping history based on five years of front-line reporting about how the war was turned around–and the choice now facing America During the fierce battle for Fallujah, Bing West asked an Iraqi colonel why the archterrorist Abu Musab al-Zarqawi had fled in women’s clothes. The colonel pointed to a Marine patrol walking by and said, “Americans are the strongest tribe.” In Iraq, America made mistake after mistake. Many gave up on the war. Then the war took a sharp U-turn. Two generals–David Petraeus and Raymond Odierno–displayed the leadership America expected. Bringing the reader from the White House to the fighting in the streets, this remarkable narrative explains the turnaround by U.S. forces. In the course of fourteen extended trips over five years, West embedded with more than sixty front-line units, discussing strategy with generals and tactics with corporals. He provides an expert’s account of counterinsurgency, disposing of myths. By describing the characters and combat in city after city, West gives the reader an in-depth understanding that will inform the debate about the war. This is the definitive study of how American soldiers actually fought –a gripping and visceral book that changes the way we think about the war, and essential reading for understanding the next critical steps to be taken."
