In addition to Batya Gur's Israeli detective and Henning Mankell's Swedish detective, I see from the New York Times that there are now translations in English of two novels about a Reykjavik detective. The author is Arnaldur Indriason. I've read the first 3 (and the fifth) of the Kurt Wallender (by Mankell) series and enjoyed them. I want to read the Michael Ohayon detective stories, which from the cover flap and the reviews sound interesting and readable. I read the review of Silence of the Grave, for which Indriason won the " 2005 British Crime Writers' Association Gold Dagger, a controversial choice that forced the CWA to create a separate category for mysteries in translation." It seemed a little too dark and serious for me, but Publishers' Weekly and Library Journl both gave it starred reviews and PW says "... the denouement of this astonishingly vivid and subtle novel is unexpected and immensely satisfying." The novel which introduced the Detective Inspector Erlendur is Jar City. That sounds interesting and not quite as dark. Cindy __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
