Hi Tracy!

I don't have a BrailleNote, so I can't say specifically, but I'll take a guess based on an experience I have.

I scan with OpenBook 7. Although I can save the ark file directly as an RTF, I don't, because MS Word doesn't like it. I get some kind of error that I can't remember what it is, because it's been about two years since I tried that. I must save as a doc file first while still in OpenBook. OpenBook's version of a Word document is Word version 6, 7, and 8, I think, so that's why Word 2003 doesn't like the RTF from OpenBook. Then I can open the doc file in Word by just hitting enter on it, and, whether I leave it as is and change it by saving as an RTF or first changing it to a Word 2003 doc file and then to an RTF, all is well. I wanted to experiment both ways when I first discovered the problem. Perhaps there is something with the BrailleNote file that is similar.

I was able to retrieve my file by going to Wordpad on my PC and opening
the file I'd copied from the BN, then re-saving it under a different name.
Klooge! But at least I have my work.
I'd still like to know why Word won't open the file directly, though.
