Hi John, You're right--this subject has been discussed a lot! The scanning/proofing manual is being revised and so you probably won't find any current information on footnotes there. Your example is correct as far as the footnotes within the text. We have been inserting a space followed by an asterisk then the footnote number. As far as searching the archives, you can browse the messages by month, but I haven't found any way to search the messages by keyword or subject. You can find the archives here: //www.freelists.org/archive/bksvol-discuss Deborah From: bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx [mailto:bksvol-discuss-bounce@xxxxxxxxxxxxx] On Behalf Of John Simpson Sent: Friday, November 09, 2012 4:53 PM To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Footnotes I am trying to finish up a book I I am proofreading. The book has about 200 footnotes. They are usually shown at the end of a sentence as an asterisk followed by a number (e.g. *14). I have not been able to find any mention of how to handle footnotes in the online instructions. If anyone has a suggestion for me, I would greatly appreciate it. Also, I doubt if this is the first time this issue has surfaced. Is there a way to search the discussion archives to see if this has been brought up before? I'd much rather use my time than yours to find out the answers to these questions. Thanks all.
