Dear Jim R. Mickey, Amy and Booksharian Friends,

In so many hours, six books are accounted for!

Since Irving Berlin was requested on list, I'll answer your questions about it on list. Jim R. and Mickey, I'll send each of you a copy of As Thousands Cheer. You can work it out between you who will scan and who will validate. I've Looked through it, not every page, but pretty closely, and I don't see any music at all. So go for it and look for me in the download line when it's approved.

Amy, You are Welcome to General Zhukov. Please send me your address off list. He's yours now. I won't worry about how long it takes you to get to him.

Mickey, will you send me your address, off list, too?

My e-mail address is:

airadil@xxxxxxxxxxxxx

Three other books have been requested and I'll be mailing them off. You Don't Have to be Your Mother, Prodigal Husband and Tomcat in Love are accounted for.I'll resend my posts with the names of the books that have been taken removed.

One volunteer considerately, or maybe it was cautiously, asked me if there was a charge. Nope, free is one of those good four letter words. The books will be yours to keep or pass on and I'll pay the postage. It's my pleasure to do this for Bookshare and for fellow volunteers who have helped me so much in all kinds of ways. Once the books leave my hands, I won't get involved. It's my hope they'll end up in the collection, but life happens. I'm content knowing whoever gets them will do their best.

I love validating and am gradually getting a handle on scanning. Tracking down more books that aren't in the collection yet at a library book sale, yard sale or at Good Will with a friend on the line confirming which books we can use is my recreation. A volunteer who helped me this week counted last night, for fun, and said this week we selected and sorted 87 books we hope will eventually be processed by volunteers, including us, and then approved. This kind of frenzied book activity comes in waves. Most of the time I'm just validating.

Today I mailed 19 books to 3 states. I made one postal worker laugh, and gave another a flower pen with an orange chrysanthemum so her pen will stand out and be less likely to be borrowed permanently away from her.

I think it's very cool that the three of you are so willing to take on books out of the blue and I'm looking forward to toting 6 more books to the post office. Actually I mail at 3 different places depending on how the transportation works out.

Always with love,

Lissi

Amy, you

Jim,

Just for info--I don't recall that the Aaron Copland
book had any actual music in it, and since it was my
first validation and that would have caused me
problems I'd probably remember. It did discuss works
but didn't contain contain actual music--nor did the
Ray Charles bio I valdidated.

Lisa,
I'm interested in the Berlin book, if it doesn't
have music in it. Most of
the biographies on musicians or composers have music
in them. Do you know if
this one does, and would you mind sending me the
list of books you posted
off list? Somehow I either didn't get it or deleted
it by accident? I am
sorry but I don't see it here.
