Hi Roger,

We've all been where you are. We all had to begin scanning and learn as we
went along. I'm still learning, and I scanned my first book in 1994.

It's true that scanning can sometimes be daunting at first, but the software
has improved immensely since the time I first scanned a book. If you really
have an interest in reading books that are not in the collection and have a
desire to try scanning, I encourage you to give it a try. *smile*

Blessings.

Lynnsky

I did indeed read that post, but before I start sending books to
Bookshare I have a few questions. Can the books be returned? Is the
Bookshare scanning process a destructive one? Whether it is or not I
would have a hard time affording the number of books I would really
like to see scanned for the collection and I don't think it would be a
good idea to borrow books from the library and ship them off to
California. That is not to say that when I ask that a book be added to
the wish list I expect someone else to take on the expense. I just
suppose that if someone else is making a trip to the library or
browsing a used book sale for the express purpose of accumulating
books to add to the Bookshare collection then if I have a number of
titles on the wish list I stand a much better chance of getting lucky
than if I didn't put them there at all.

I have done one additional thing and am contemplating another thing to
get them into the collection though. First, I did send a message to
Pavi asking her to inform the publisher liaison that it would be
appreciated if Pathfinder Press could be contacted about supplying
some publisher quality books. Second, I am looking into scannning some
myself. I am hesitant to launch into that because I have not done that
before and the general discussion here tells me that beginning
scanners tend to make a lot of mistakes and I would hate to put a lot
of work into it just to have my submissions rejected.
