I tend to use the right click menu to select all and then copy long
messages of that sort.  Or I compose them in notepad to begin with.

I started doing that after installing a somewhat flaky firefox plugin
that OCRs those blog comment guard images.  After awhile it stops
working and I have to restart firefox, but often by the time I find
that out my message is no longer available to copy.
