Hmmm. I don't know much about copyright law, or how it applies to books being copied into pdf files, but I do know from working in a school--and least I think I know--that copyrighted books and articles can be copied for educational use only--and then, although teachers do it when there's a dearth of textbooks to go around, I don't think whole books are supposed to be copied--just pages.
