Hello Lori:
No joy!
Find and replace found no ^0031, but found 458 -^p. (hard dashes at the
end of lines out of 10,756 lines)
Perhaps I should do nothing.
Thanks for your help!

John, you may be seeing optional hyphens. I don’t recall why they appear in some files, but if you want to remove them, do the following:
Do a Global Replace using Word's Find and Replace dialog:
- Go to the very beginning of the file by doing a Ctrl + Home
- In the Find what box type: ^0031
- Make sure the Replace with box is completely empty
- Click Replace All
Obviously, do this on a copy of your file to see if this find and replace accomplishes what you want.

*Subject:* [bksvol-discuss] How to proof a narrow book
I am trying to proofread Living, Loving and Learning by Leo Buscaglia, Ph.D.
The book seems to be scanned from a narrow paperback.
Lines are short and have many hyphons.
Is there any way to re-format it to make it more readable?
