Hi all, just a heads up on s problem with LibreOffice, which is the new free open source office suite software that's come out as an alternative to Open Office. LibreOffice has a huge bug in it that they've just officially documented. It's supposed to correctly read in RTF files, but with the bug it strips all the page breaks. I'm really disappointed. I downloaded it as an alternative to Microsoft Office, to use it for proofreading, and it's really good otherwise. They discovered the bug in this latest version just two weeks ago. If they get that bug fixed, I'm going to try again to use LibreOffice instead of Microsoft Word for proofreading books. It's way better than Open Office, and I'm really impressed with how powerful it is. They get bonus points from me because it doesn't use those annoying ribbons that Microsoft has added to Office. Also, unlike Open Office, the programmers are trying to design LibreOffice to be very accessible. It supposedly has all the hooks in it to work correctly with JAWS. (The link to read about its accessibility features is: http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/accessibility/ ) If anyone has tried LibreOffice with a screen reader, I'd like very much to know whether it worked well. If it does, once they get that bug fixed soon, it might be a great free alternative for any volunteers that otherwise might have to buy Microsoft Office. LibreOffice works for PCs and Macs both.
