Thanks, Monica.
This is great, how you tell us about the book and what you think it needs.
And as I understand what you said, perhaps someone who likes mysteries and
will read it all through and make the corrections may choose to download and
validate, or if not you will get it next week.

Question for all.
So Monica tells us on the list, that she is releasing this particular book
now, and why. Now, is there any way other than having just read Monica's
message that a person will know any of this history of what is going on or
has gone on other than it will now say RETURNNEW in the Comment section of
the file on the Step 1 page?

I think it is great we have this newsgroup to discuss and even seem to have
great partnering actions to validate.

I find however that I just can't keep all these emails and all of these
books straight. It is a busy discussion group, and there are many many books
up there. I go to the step 1 page, I look for a book, but I don't know its
history, or if it has been returned new either for this or that reason.

I commend you folks who spend such an inordinate time validating. I love
that we are committed to making the Bookshare collection full of HIGH
QUALITY books with few minimal scanning errors. And I want to help, but I
hate the feeling of taking a book down that perhaps has had work done by
another and maybe they even told the group what the case was or their
impression or reason for returning it, etc. It just feels like such a
duplication of effort somehow.

Could there perhaps be a suggestion for ANOTHER possible category for a
COMMENT associated with a book that is returned to the Step 1 page? Or a
place where comments like what Monica said can be seen there, so while
considering its download you can have the benefit of her time spent and
assessment comment displayed there?

Comments categories pasted below from the jake's page volunteer tips page.

Thanks.
Rik

Here is a list of the known Comment History "Actions" that you might see on
a book's Step 1 Download page.

SUBMIT: Submitting a book, every book should have this as its first action.

EDIT: A volunteer has checked the book out for editing.

RETURNNEW: Places the original, submitted, copy of a book on the Step 1
Download for Validation page. This action can occur when a volunteer
releases a book, a book expires, or an administrator is seeking
clarification on an issue.

VALID: Validation: Places a book in the administrative approval pool.

INVALID: Rejection: Places a book in the administrative rejection pool.

DONEDONE: Occurs after a valid action and is when the BookShare processing
tools analyze the book.

PUBLISH: Places a book into the live BookShare collection. This action can
only be performed by an administrator. You may see these actions in pairs,
presumably one for DAISY and one for BRF.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Murder Shoots The Bull

I have just released Murder Shoots The Bull because it needs more
fixing up than I can give it till next week. It has stray I and 1
characters mingled through the text, and a spellchecker won't catch
those. My mom has gone out of town, so I'm working in my dad's
office through Sunday. I like the plot of this mystery and will pick
it up again if no one else has taken it. It really needs someone who
likes mysteries to read it through.
