Hey Folks, I've got a book on the Check Out page that needs a proofreader. There's a story behind this one though, so if you'll bear with me I'll relate the sad tale. The book is called Hylozoic by Rudy Rucker. It is the sequel to Postsingular. I'll put the long synopsis below. It's not a terrible book, but not a really great one either; at least not as good as I had hoped. In any event, I announced Postsingular on this list and it was picked up by someone and proofread fairly quickly.. When I had Hylozoic ready I wrote to this proofreader and asked whether they would be interested in doing it. They responded that they would. So I submitted the book on August 11 with a hold for this person. The proofreader picked up the book on August 16 and let it expire on August 30. I wrote to them on September 13 asking if they were still interested in proofreading it and got no response. Then I asked Carrie to remove the Hold for on September 19, which she did. The book has been on the Check Out page ever since. I thought Bob Wiley might take it, but he is apparently not able to at the moment at least, so I'm hoping that someone here will check it out and send it on to the Approval queue. It is unfortunate that the original proofreader didn't take it because it is a direct sequel. Although I don't suppose you absolutely have to have read Postsingular, it certainly would help. Still, I hope someone will get this book off the Check Out page for me. It has been completely read through, all headers removed, all page numbers and page breaks accounted for, all chapter titles and book title and author have been adjusted. Thanks much. Here's the info from the inside flaps: In Rucker's last novel, Postsingular, the Singularity happened. Life on Earth has been transformed by the awakening of all matter into consciousness and telepathic communication. The most intimate moments of your life can be experienced by anyone who cares to pay attention to them or by hundreds of thousands of anyones if you are one of the Founders who helped create the Singularity. The small bunch of Founders, including young newlyweds Thuy, a hypertext novelist, and Jayjay, a gamer and brain-enhancement addict, are living a popular live-action media life. But now, alien races that have already gone through this transformation have noticed Earth for the first time, and begin arriving to exploit both the new environment and any available humans. Some of them are real estate developers, some are slavers, and some just want to help. But who can tell the difference? Someone has to save humanity from the alien invasions, and it might as well be reality media stars Thuy and Jayjay. They have the problems of soap opera stars, and are still propelled through adventures in time and in other universes; a long strange trip, indeed. Evan
