I wonder if this is a form of synesthesia. I once had an acquaintance who saw everyone as an animal and as a food. Sometimes when she identified a person as an animal I could vaguely see it, such as the man who supposedly looked like a walrus. With his long mustache I could see where she might get that. But when it came to food or most other animals I never could get it. She said that looking at me she saw a hedgehog and beef stroganoff.
