Seriously, though, I don't know of any way other than by reading and 
eliminating as you go. I had a 
problem with one book with el's -- there were the long lines at the end of the 
sentences that seemed to 
be part of garbage -- you know, like the one that is above the reverse dash on 
the keyboard. After being 
tired of eliminating them one by one, I copied what I thought was a double ||, 
pasted it into the replace 
and replaced it with nothing. Then, as I read along, I discovered that, in the 
font I was using, they had 
been el's. I had to do a search for all the words that might have a double-el 
in them and put the els back 
in. That taught me to be very  careful and not take a short cut unless I was 
very sure it was safe.
