I just read Ann's Post re *Kim*. I was going to suggest Gutenberg.org (I
think org though it could be .com. Re another book in he book share
collection someone felt that it wasn't a direct publisher edition but had
been scanned or photographed from the Gutenberg collection. Before I
started volunteering for Bookshare I did that for Gutenberg. I scanned (one
interesting thing I'd found in my library's used-bookstore and scanned was
a very old and rare copy of shoot ...I can't remember the author's name
he's a well-known writer of humor; I think the book was titled Eve. it was
very funny; when I could no longer scan edited Gutenberg books that had
been canned by others. Their rules for editing were (maybe still are)
quite different from bookshare's and more onerous; I was very happy to
discover Bookshare so I cloud continue volunteering in my retirement years
because the work I''d been doing at the public library, both in the branch
and the used-book store became more difficult when I couldn't get around
as well after my stroke; I needed to be able to work from home
There are a lot of good books available to read for free in Gutenberg
collection. you can read them online (and I supose down load ad them though
I'm not sure; I've read them online ( Darwin's The Beagle (is that right)
and who's the science fiction writer who wrote Voyage to the Moon? btw
--that voyage emanated from exact spot in what is now Florida from which the
modern space flights took off.
I also used a Gutenberg copy of an out-of-print book to proof a book that
I couldn't obtain from anywhere,

Judy, That was a great letter. I am so with you in this. I do a lot of
proofreading for Braille and I have heard: "Oh, it's not necessary to
proofread a book." Really?
By the way, I have a little book that I'm scanning. Would you want to
proof it; It's sort of religious.
