I agree with this. After all, if changes in font size create Daisy headings for
navigation, there’s no point in creating headings for more than one page with
the title on it.

Hi Judy,

Excellent question! I don’t think it makes the title page any harder to find
than both the author’s name and all book parts being size 18 point. However,
since that isn’t as common, you do make a good point. I definitely encourage
people to only change the title to 20 point and bold on the title page and
copyright page, and not throughout the rest of the book.

Best,

Madeleine

Madeleine, What about the title being 20 point on many pages other than the
title page? I see a lot of books that way. We were told as volunteers in the
past that it was OK to do it that way. However, if finding the title page
depends on the 20 point font navigation, doesn't it get confusing to have it OK
for the title to be 20 point on more than the title page?

Thanks for any clarification! smile

Hi Susan,

It may once have been a requirement, but since I’ve been here I’ve never
expected or required it. After discussing with my coworkers in the hopes of
getting all of Bookshare’s books on the same page (heh) with font sizing, I’ve
removed it from the requirements. Basically, our understanding was that the
only reason to have the author’s name at 18 point would be to help you find the
title page. Since we’re already changing the title to 20 point, the title page
is pretty easy to find. Changing the author’s name to 18 point and bold seemed
unnecessary.

Madeleine

I thought the author’s name was to be in 18 instead of 12. Is this a change?

Hi all,

Yes, that list Valerie posted below is correct. Author’s names should be left
and 12 point and not bold.

Madeleine

Text 12

Sub-chapters 14 bold

Chapters 16 bold

Section headings 18 bold

Titles 20 bold

I was thinking Madeleine said authors got no special treatment, so were 12,
but could be mistaken…
