You are looking for scanning errors and stray characters introduced by scanning software. A lot of these scanning errors are obvious If a sentence begins with the word Die where the word The is clearly called for then that is a scanning error. If there are vertical bars at the end of lines where no vertical bars belong then that is a character that has been introduced where there is actually no character. If the book is not formatted properly that is also a proofreader's responsibility. I would advise reading the manual for information on how to do that.

exactly am I looking for to fix while I'm proof reading books? Can someone
explain that to me please? Thank u.
