In my case, it's simply that I don't have access to a scanner (read: I'm too poor to buy one). If I did, I would scan many books that would never be added as EPUBS to the collection because they're from small, independent publishers, and have a worldwide audience of, at a liberal estimate, three hundred people. I read, and would thus scan, many fictions which depart from the usual forms of narrative and style, including stream of consciousness, (/post)modernism, oulipo, surrealism, nouveau, antinovel, metafiction, ETC, and, for prospective, include such authors as John Barth, David Markson, Lucy Ellmann, Joseph McElroy, Stanley Elkin, William H. Gass, Georges Perec, Urs Allemann, Reyoung, Gilbert Sorrentino, Gertrude Stein, Djuna Barnes, Donald Barthelme, Max Frisch, and many others. Bookshare's collection of such writings is okay, but could be improved, and if I had a scanner, there would be many such books making the rounds of the checkout list, because I would temporarily make it my life's work to purchase everything the Dalkey Archive press and New Directions has ever published and scan them, and would love every minute of it. But that's just me. I'm guessing for everyone else, it's merely summer activities, finals (if they're in high school or college), and miscellanious events which take up most of their time, and in a month or two, things will go back to normal.

That's very nice of you, Robert.
Where are all the scanners? There appear to be around 100 books on the fiction and nonfiction wish lists, combined. Is everyone too busy with finals and end-of-the-year events? Or are too many of us getting too infirm to scan? Or do too few people have access to scanners and/or can't afford buy them. Did I read at some point that maybe book share could provide some people with scanners? Does anyone have junior high or high school kids or boy- or girl-scouts or kids in churches who need to do community service? Scanning would be a good project for them, it seems to me. smile

Since the check out page is getting smaller and smaller, I
released my three books for ones that need credits. Since I’m okay
for a few years they are up for grabs.
