We, as volunteer validators, aren't the ones to set the standards. Our role, if we choose to accept it, is to follow the guidelines to get books validated and added to the collection.

This is not to suggest that scans cannot be better. They can. But the best way to get higher standards is for those of us who scan to make certain that submitted scans are of such high quality that the bar can be raised.
Let us also consider that with light fiction or recreational reading material, and this is a good portion of what gets submitted, even "fair"
rated stuff is more than readable. Remember, folks, yup until a few years ago, much of this material wouldn't
have been at our disposal, especially as quickly as it is, if it weren't for scanning and ocr technology.

Let's not lose perspective nor the difference what a validator and a submitter is. Even a lesser quality book can be upgraded later if someone believes they can do a better job due to their own skills or the equipment at their disposal.
And I'll bet that there is a learning curve in scanning books.
