I think that would be a bit annoying, and a little weird. The characters
won't be removed from the book, so I don't think you need to worry about
how they are said. You don't want the replacement to be annoying and long
to braille readers, and the plot change, although useful to know, is not
exactly vital to a person's enjoyment and comprehention of the book. The
worst they'd have to do is go back a little to get their brain back on
track. :-)

When feasible, would it make sense to replace plot changing symbols like
***, or ---, with the words "asterisk, asterisk, asterisk" or "dash, dash,
dash" when validating?

An * is usually a good one that can reproduce well in Braille.
I usually replace bullets for a * when I come across then, and they don't scan well.
Some books use stars, and I saw one book once that used a + to show a plot
change.

Hello,
I am scanning and editing a book, but need some advice. The book is not
broken into chapters, but has a flower of some sort to signify that the plot
has changed. What would be the best character to use for the Daisy format
and BRF formats of the book? When scanning using Kurzweil 1000, there is
just a blank line, but do I need to put stars or something to signify the
plot change? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
