Dilsia,

If you're not already a volunteer, then I'd suggest contacting John Glass at
John.G@xxxxxxxxxxxx, rather than Gustavo, and asking for help getting you
signed up as a volunteer. That will permit you to help validate new Spanish
books, as well as get you credits toward a new subscription if you're a
member.

If you're already a volunteer and just wanting to help with cleaning up some
books already in the collection, then you'll need to write Gustavo to get
him to put the books you're interested back on the list of books needing
validation unless you happen to have a recent version of K-1000. If I
understood Jake correctly, the latest version of K-1000 wil preserve page
breaks when converting from DAISY to RTF and allow you to resubmit the book
with a note to Gustavo letting him know what you're doing. You'd also want
to add BSO to the front of the title to provide Gustavo a quick way of
recognizing that you know the book is already in the collection.

Also, if you spot books which in your opinion just need to have their
quality upgraded, then you should be able to write either Gustavo or John
and just explain that the book deserves a higher quality. It's my
understanding that many of the Spanish books were defaulted to Fair because
they needed someone who is fluent in Spanish to help do more than a minimal
validation. I'd suggest writing John for this type of change since I
believe he's up to speed with these types of admin duties, although it's my
understanding that he's leaving book approvals to Gustavo. He can always
redirect you to Gustavo if Gustavo's the more appropriate person to help
you, and you'll get a faster response from John. Be sure to include an
explanation of why you believe a book deserves a higher rating. Ffor
example, that you've read the book and found no reason why it deserves to be
rated Fair or have done the equivalent of a validation on it and found
nothing to make you think it should be rated Fair. That last reason is a
bit trickier since the book could have words or a page missing that you
wouldn't spot unless you read it all the way through, and the book might
actually deserve its Fair rating.

HTH

Gerald

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Spanish books rated Fair

Dear inhabitants of planet Bookshare:

I was gently approached by Cindy-sensei to revalidate some Spanish
books added to the collection with fair rating. I submitted a handful of
them but I would like that Gustavo or Jake help me because I'm not
subscribed to Bookshare yet so I can't dowload them to revalidate. Waiting
to be validated are like four Spanish books, two of them submitted by me.

Lissi, you are not alone in the shocks can Bookshare gives you. I
almost got unconcious when I learned that the stripper tool also eats page
numbers, the only word I could pronounce was the four-letter word.
