Agree with all of Ann P’s suggestions, with one addition to suggestion 3. When
it says in the book history comments "Checkout expired and was released by
VolunteerCheckoutManagementTask,” and the book history makes clear that someone
has been proofing the book for more than 2 weeks, this is a clue that quite
possibly the proofer didn’t mean to let it lapse. I have learned to avoid such
books for proofing, unless or until they remain on the checkout queue for quite
some time.

… My third suggestion is that if a proofer checks out a book and looks in
the history, the lack of comments may indicate that the book has been
inadvertently allowed to expire. Notes indicate deliberate expiration. The
lack of notes may indicate a problem. If a proofer notices a lack of notes,
it might be worth checking with the person who last held the book to be sure
it didn't expire by mistake. ...
