Tananarive Due is really, really good! I have another novel of hers in my stack of books to scan titled "Good House" which is actually the first one I read via audible.com. I could hardly put it down! I tend to run away from the scary books *too overactive of an imagination*, but I like to read about where I live. *G* Maithe ----- Original Message ----- From: Donna <mailto:donnafsmith@xxxxxxxxxxx> Smith To: bksvol-discuss@xxxxxxxxxxxxx Sent: Saturday, January 26, 2008 2:25 AM Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Two Books Submitted For your validating pleasure. The Between, by Tananarive Due; about 275 pages. This is a recently discovered author for me and this was her first book. She is African-American and writes some of the best psychological horror I've read in a while! She'll Never Tel, by Hunter Morgan; about 300 pages. This is the first in a trilogy of which the second, "She'll Never Know," is already in the collection, and the third "She'll Never Live," I submitted a couple of weeks ago from the wish list. So here is book one to round out the series. Per usual, let me know if anything needs rescanning, and here are the synopses: The Between, by Tananarive Due When Hilton was just a boy, his aged grandmother saved him from drowning by pulling him out of a treacherous ocean current, sacrificing her own life for his. Now, thirty years later, he is a dedicated social worker, married to the only elected African-American judge in Dade County, Florida, and the father of two beautiful children. As his thirty-ninth birthday draws near, though, he is starting to think his borrowed time is running out. His wife has begun receiving racist hate mail-letters from a man she once prosecuted who now threatens to destroy her entire family. Hilton becomes obsessed with protecting them, and begins having nightmares more horrible than any he has ever experienced. Are the strange dreams trying to tell him something? Perhaps Hilton was never meant to have survived that drowning accident, and there are forces at work to rectify that mistake. Hilton's sense of reality begins slipping away as he battles both the psychotic who stalks his family and the even more terrifying unseen enemy that plagues his sleep. Shocking and utterly convincing, The Between is a novel about a man desperately trying to hold on to the people and life he loves, but may already have lost, and keeps readers suspended until the final moment of chilling resolution. It is a brilliantly written novel of the supernatural that announces the arrival of a unique and compelling new voice. She'll Never Tell, by Hunter Morgan Overweight and insecure, Marcy Edmond has always lived in the shadow of her gorgeous identical twin sister Phoebe. She hates her job as a CPA. Hates the fact that her children ignore her and her husband seems indifferent. But-in the blink of an eye-everything changes. Acarcrash.Acoma. Seemingly insurmountable odds. Six months later, Marcy awakens to a second chance. Plastic surgery and weight loss have transformed her into the woman she's always wanted to be, though life has gone on without her. Phoebe has worked her way into Marcy's family-and possibly into her husband's heart... Meanwhile, someone has been watching Marcy turn from an ugly duckling into a beautiful swan. She may feel overlooked by those closest to her, but he's been paying attention. He thinks Marcy is perfect. She's exactly the kind of woman he would love-to kill.
