Perhaps I can fix it - its not always straightforward. KES files are
an example of an OLE Compound Document - so, by the way, are Word
documents. These kind of documents essentially have a file system
within a file, which can have the equivalent of folders and other
files within them. When they go bad, it can be really difficult to
reconstruct them.
It would be interesting, certainly, to know what went wrong.
Generally if you didn't get an error message from your save, the
saved file should be in good shape, as we "smoke test" each saved
file immediately after creating it.

I'm listed as a bookshare volunteer, I think you can do that without
violating the rules of your agreement with bookshare.org. I'll take a
look, and hopefully recover most of the pages for you.

Hi, everyone! I have been working with a book for months, and thanks to assistance from a sighted friend, I was finally able to get the pages typed that wouldn't scan well. The pages are saved as Word files, and I've been pasting them into my original document, replacing all of the garbled text. I only had a few pages to go when JFW 7.1 stopped speaking. I saved my K1000 file and re-booted. When I opened K1000 and attempted to open my document, I received the following message: "An error occurred while trying to open the file. The document's format could not be determined."
Please tell me that I am not going to have to start over! I've been working with this file for months, literally. The book in question is London Refrain, by Brock and Bodie Thoene. A good number of the pages are letters written between two of the main characters. They were written in an italicized font, so they didn't scan very well. Stephen, can you fix it? Thanks!
