Hi, Scott, I can't say I have a lot of friends but I can tell you I
joined Bookshare because a friend encouraged me. I went to the site and
eventually joined. One thing I can definitely tell you is that I know
some blind folks in Canada who would love to join if they could read
what is in the collection. I'm hearing they wish they had the same sort
of thing we have in the States. We are so protective of copyright and I
am sure you've heard talk concerning the lack of accessibility
internationally with regard to people who are blind or reading-disabled
having access to books. I'm afraid the only thing I can do is sympathize
with friends from Canada, the UK, Australia, New Zealand, etc. I don't
know if this answers your question. I have talked to any friend I have
who can take advantage of joining Bookshare. I don't know if this will
work or if the marketing people will consider it but I've joined
audible.com and pay a monthly fee. I certainly don't mind paying the $50
fee per year. I like the idea of a trial subscription. Regards, Kim
Friedman.

Subject: [bksvol-discuss] Volunteers as Recruiters for New Bookshare
Members?

Hi Everyone,

I just met with Bookshare's Marketing Department. They would like your
advice and your help.

Marketers are always watching trends and asking questions about ow to
change them. They have noticed several positive trends:

  Your levels of engagement
The fact we have about 100,000 books and 100,000 members
The increase in numbers of new adult members

They are wondering:

What do you say to your friend, or anyone else who you think would
benefit from Bookshare, when you recommend that they join?
Would you be willing to reach out to a handful of people you know to
encourage people to join Bookshare?
Would it help if you could offer them a free trial month as a "holiday
gift" from you?

Let me know here on list and I will communicate your responses to them.

Thanks!

Scott Rains
