[bksvol-discuss] What Do I Do with Chinese Characters in a Book

Hey Guys,

I'm doing a book for Bookshare about Chinese policy and it occasionally has Chinese characters in brackets.

For example, on page 61-62, it says:

*

Similarly, in leaked documents prepared for the 16th Party Congress, Hu made clear that Chinas restraint was influenced by its power. " 'Holding back

62

differences' [^H1] is in the common interest of both China and the United States," Hu stated, but this was only because China was weak.

*

The ^H1 is what my scanner made of the Chinese characters within the brackets.

Anybody have a suggestion as to how I am to handle these?

Could I just put [Chinese characters] wherever these occur?

Or is there something better I should do?

Thanks much for any ideas.

Evan
